Dept. of Aerospace Engineering Professor John Lambros has been selected to the grade of Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

According to an AIAA press release announcing this year’s honorees, “The grade of Associate Fellow recognizes individuals ‘who have accomplished or been in charge of important engineering or scientific work, or who have done original work of outstanding merit, or who have otherwise made outstanding contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics.’ To be selected as an Associate Fellow an individual must be an AIAA Senior Member in good standing, with at least 12 years professional experience, and be recommended by a minimum of three current Associate Fellows.”

Lambros joined the faculty in 2000 as an assistant professor, becoming a full professor in 2007.

He directs the Advanced Materials Testing and Evaluations Laboratory of The Grainger College of Engineering, considered one of the premier experimental facilities in the testing of advanced materials, and the High Strain Rate Mechanics Lab in Aerospace Engineering, a state-of-the-art facility for high-strain-rate impact testing of materials.

This past August, Lambros was also named as a Donald Biggar Willett Professor of Engineering—a recognition that goes to faculty members who demonstrate excellence in research, teaching, and professional service.

Lambros will be formally honored and inducted in a ceremony on Jan. 6 at the 2020 AIAA SciTech Forum in Orlando, Florida.
