Dr. Robert Liebeck, Program Manager of the Blended-Wing-Body Program at Boeing Phantom Works, received the AIAA’s Aircraft Design Award for 2005.  This award was established in 1968 and is given to a design engineer or team for the conception, definition, or development of an original concept leading to a significant advancement in aircraft design or design technology.  Dr. Liebeck, an Alumnus of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, has attained world recognition with his novel designs for high-lift airfoils.  He is co-developer of the Blended-Wing-Body (BWB), an innovative design for subsonic transports that many believe will revolutionize subsonic commercial transportation.  The BWB is a top priority at NASA and is under serious consideration by Boeing, where Liebeck is a senior fellow.
