Aerospace Engineering at Illinois Prof. John Lambros will serve a 3-year term as Associate Editor for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Journal of Applied Mechanics.
Lambros has been a member of the ASME organization for 20 years and became an ASME Fellow in 2009. He has been an AE faculty member since 2000, and currently is the department’s Acting Associate Head for Graduate Programs.
Lambros’ research interests include:
- Wave propagation and fracture in multiphase systems
- Quasi-static and dynamic fracture of Functionally Graded Materials
- Thermo-mechanical effects and adiabatic shear banding
- Micro/nano mechanics of polymer deformation and fracture
- Image correlation techniques in three dimensions
- Dynamic failure of MEMS devices and microelectronics
- Nonlinear stress wave mitigation
- Thermomechanical fatigue
The purpose of the Journal of Applied Mechanics is to communicate original research results of permanent interest in all branches of mechanics. Technical areas covered include: aerodynamics; aeroelasticity; biomechanics; boundary layers; composite materials; computational mechanics; constitutive modeling of materials; dynamics; elasticity; experimental mechanics; flow and fracture; heat transport in fluid flows; hydraulics; impact; internal flow; mechanical properties of materials; mechanics of shocks; micromechanics; nanomechanics; plasticity; stress analysis; structures; thermodynamics of materials and in flowing fluids; thermomechanics; turbulence; vibration; wave propagation; and any related areas.
