Bytesize Science Features Illinois Self-Healing Work

The wide scope of projects AE at Illinois professors Nancy R. Sottos and Scott White and their graduate students pursue in developing self-healing materials that mimic biological processes are now featured on the American Chemical Society’s Bytesize Science website.

The video shows AE at Illinois graduate student Henghua Jin working with microcapsules that, when broken, “bleed” and release a chemical that aids in “healing” cracks. Marta Baginska, also a graduate student in AE, demonstrates a self-healing electronic circuit. Civil Engineering graduate student Jason Patrick tells of the group’s work with microvascular systems.
