Jackson continues as AIAA editor

AE Adjunct Prof. Thomas L. Jackson has begun a third term as Associate Editor for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Journal.

Jackson has been Associate Editor since 2006. The organization cited the breadth of his AE knowledge in asking him to continue in the position. AE Prof. Gregory Elliott is also an Associate Editor.

In addition to his AE position, Jackson is Chief Scientist of Illinois RocstarLLC, a Senior Research Scientist at the Center for Simulation of Advanced Rockets (CSAR), and an affiliate of the Computational Science and Engineering Department (CSE).

He received his Mathematics Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1985, and then joined the staff of the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE), where he had previously been a Graduate Research Assistant. In 1987 he became an Assistant, then, in 1992, an Associate Professor at Old Dominion University in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. 1993 he moved back to ICASE for five years before moving to the Urbana campus at Illinois.

Jackson has co-edited two books, co-authored a textbook on hydrodynamic stability, and authored or co-authored more than 170 papers.

He currently is a member of the Combustion Institute, and an Associate AIAA Fellow. He has been a paper and grant referee for many organizations and journals. Jackson’s expertise is in the area of combustion, and the large-scale simulation thereof, and in combustion stability.
